Ladder Slippage Puzzle Solution

Genre: Geometry Puzzle Rating: 6 - Medium to Hard Source: Unknown
Brain Functions: Analysis, Exact Calculations Puzzle    Hint

The hint shows a right triangle with a hypotenuse of 5 units and one side of 4 units. This must be a 3-4-5 right triangle (or use the Pythagorean theorem: 3 squared + 4 squared = 5 squared). That is, the third side must have a length of 3 units. Therefore, a 'unit' must be 5 feet long (15 feet divided by 3). The ladder is 5 x 5 feet long, or 25 feet.
