Greek Cross Puzzle

Genre: Math Rating: 8 - Very Hard Source: Sam Loyd, Cyclopedia p.58
Brain Functions: Geometry / Visual Thinking Hint    Solution

A Greek cross has 12 sides of equal length, all at right angles; it can be thought of as a square sharing one side with four other squares of equal size. In this classic puzzle you are asked to make exactly two straight-line cuts to separate a Greek cross into pieces that can be formed into a square. All the pieces will be used to form the square. No pieces will overlap, and no pieces will have to be flipped over to form the square.
